The proposed site is located within
easy reach of both Warsaw and Łódź, in central Poland. The main road and
rail intersections in the area would provide increased accessibility to the
proposed area.
Rail connections
The proposed airport site is well-resourced with rail connections. The
fastest of these, running on the northern side of the site guarantees a
direct connection with Warsaw in 45 minutes. This modernised railway line,
the E-20 (Berlin - Kunowice - Poznań - Warsaw - Terespol - Moscow) is
adapted to allow speeds of up to 160 km/h and is equipped with optical fibres.
The former military airport site is also connected with Sochaczew railway
station by way of a one-way siding, which, in the past, was used, amongst
other things for the transport of petrol. The Sochaczew - Warsaw route is
covered by the European Agreement on Main International Railway Lines (AGC)
and runs within the Paneuropean Transport Corridor no II (Warsaw - Berlin).
The Sochaczew - Łowicz Główny - Kutno - Płock Radziwie, and Sochaczew
- Łowicz Przedmieście - Zgierz - Łódź Kaliska rail connections form an
integral part of the area`s rail network.
Road connections
Sochaczew is situated directly on the Warsaw - Poznań road route number 2.
During peak times, the Sochaczew-Warsaw centre route can be conquered in 60
minutes. The Sochaczew bypass opening in December 2003 will enable the
speeding up of the road connection with Warsaw.
The modernised Płock - Grójec route number 50, borders directly with the
airport site. About 10 km away, the A-2 motorway (East - West) is planned to
be completed in 2007. This motorway will shorten the road connection with
Warsaw to 40 minutes and with Łódź to 60 minutes. Additionally, Warsaw can
be reached using the provincial road (number 580) through Żelazowa Wola.
